Based on our experience both with food and with people in custodial care, we are working closely with the Scottish Prison Service and Fife College, the Universities of Strathclyde and Manchester (MMU) to develop B.E.I.N.G.
A pilot (working title 4F PILOT) is already agreed and funded. Participants from the Scottish Prison Service, Creatives, and staff from Fife College, will work together, and through writing, and photography, will develop sample pages of a book, This six-week proof-of-concept project will launch in 2021/2 in HMYOI Polmont, subject to COVID. Further funding has been applied for from Creative Scotland to support the additional involvement of film.
Since the design of 4F PILOT, B.E.I.N.G. has been developed into a main three year project, and is expected to launch soon after the pilot. Designed around a three year 'degree-style' program the main components of B.E.I.N.G. are
Year 1 - Book building and Entrepreneurial training
Year 2 - Instruction in the manufacture/development of the eventual business product and Nouse, or acumen, for developing its profile, suppliers and customers
Year 3 - the Grail of employment in a social enterprise
